Precious coral or red coral is the common name given to Corallium rubrum and other similar types of coral. What distinguishes precious coral is its unmistakable red or skeleton pink color, which are used in jewelry. Red corals grow on the bottom of the sea with low sedimentation and dark environments. The original species C. Rubrum is mainly found in the Mediterranean Sea, growing at depths of 10 to 300 meters below sea level.
