AGATE AS A PRECIOUS STONE

Agate is a name for a wide variety of chalcedonies. Agate has various colors ranging from translucent to opaque, some are geodes, meaning they are hollow in the center, often with crystals inside.

They grow on different types of rock and through different processes. For this reason, its hardness can vary, but it is generally between 6 and 8 on the Mohs scale. It is a member of the quartz family. Africa, Brazil, Asia, Egypt, Germany, England, Italy, Mexico, Nepal, Canada and the United States have different varieties of agate.

Agate has been used by humanity since the Neolithic period.
