MEANING OF DUMORTIERITE

The name of this stone comes from the French paleontologist Eugène Dumortier (1803-1873).

Deposits have been found in Madagascar, Namibia, Sri Lanka, Canada, Portland, France, Brazil and the United States, it is commonly found en masse.

The colors of the stone vary from reddish pink or brown, to blue-violet or darker blue. The dark blue variety is the most common although the raw stone can appear a lighter color.
