Obverse: Chimaera Walking Left.

Reverse:  Dove Flying, symbol of peace, purity, and the goddess Aphrodite

Legend: Chimaera, A mythological monster with the body of a lion, the head of a goat rising from its back, and a serpent’s tail.

The Chimaera, on the other hand, represents the power of heroism over chaos. According to myth, the Chimaera was a fearsome creature slain by Bellerophon, a hero who rode the winged horse Pegasus.

The presence of the Chimaera on Sikyon’s coins may allude to courage, victory, and divine favor, virtues the city admired and wished to associate itself with.

This pairing — the peaceful dove and the ferocious Chimaera forms a striking duality:

  • The dove embodies peace and divine grace.
  • The Chimaera evokes strength and defense against adversity.

Together, they reflect Sikyon’s balance between art and power, between serenity and valor — a harmony central to its identity in the Peloponnesos during a time of shifting alliances between Macedon, Sparta, and the Achaean League.

  • Composition: Silver
  • Denomination: Drachm
  • Date: ca.330-280 BC.
  • Mint:  Sikyon, in the Peloponnesos (southern Greece)

Heritage is a collection of authentic Roman coins minted between the 3rd century BC and the 2nd century AD, transformed into unique Corso pieces. Each one meets the strictest quality standards, crafted by expert artisans who respect and preserve the original details of each coin.

Due to their age and the natural traces of their time in ruins, these coins require special care to preserve their relief, patina and ancient appearance.

  • Avoid applying perfumes, creams, oils, or makeup directly to the piece.
  • Do not expose it to moisture or corrosive substances.
  • To clean, use soap and water and gently dry the piece with a soft, neutral-colored cloth to absorb moisture.
  • Avoid contact with water or with sweat/natural skin acidity, as this may dull or soil the material.
  • Due to their age, these pieces are more sensitive to chemical elements, which can affect their color.
  • To clean the piece, use soapy water and gently dry it with a soft, neutral-colored cloth, removing oils and residues that may dirty it or affect its shine.
  • Store the piece in its protective leather bag.

Each coin is unique, with variations in relief, color and patina that reflect its original characteristics, marked by the passage of time.
