Among the most beautiful of all Roman coin types, both the obverse and reverse designs were popular designs for intaglio engraved gems during the Late Republic. In Greek mythology, a gorgon was one of the three monstrous sisters, Stheno, Euryale, and Medusa. They were daughters of Ceto and Phorcus. Medusa was the only mortal one.
